My son's 3rd birthday was on January 4th, but this past Saturday we celebrated it with a party with a few friends from his preschool. In the aftermath of that party, he was playing delightfully with his 7 month old sister, and I decided to broach the subject of the adoption with him. The conversation went a bit like this.
Me: Mommy and Daddy are going to have another baby.
Ian: Another Baby?
Me: We are going to adopt a baby.
Ian: [clueless] baby?
Me: [sounding excited] You are going to have two sisters!
Ian: [still confused] Two sisters? Isabel? [his voice fading off...]
Me: Yes. Isabel and another new sister!
Ian: [Thinking, agreeing, understanding (and as if they are custom ordered)] I want a black one!

My son was 2 when we started abd 3 when we finished and I bought an Asian doll for Gracie. I told him it was for his sister...from then on he referred to that doll as "My sista". it was hilarious!! Just keep talking about it, he'll get it!! (and he certainly wil when she gets here!)
Love it! (Did you laugh or did you keep a straight face?)
How cute! Out of the mouths of babes, huh!

Too funny!! :-)
Hee hee! When I told my nephew that "Aunt Shell" was going to adopt a baby from China he said "O.K. But I want a boy". When I informed him that his cousin would most likely be a girl, he replied "Maybe you could get two babies. A boy for me and a girl for Gracie". If only it were that easy!
