Driving home yesterday, I pulled off the interstate exit towards our home. I always speed off the ramp pretty fast. Many times I forget that my friends, the CHP, like to sit and wait for people like me who forget to slow down.
I'm driving down the road when in the rearview mirror I see in the distance something that looks like it might be a police car.
Oh no, I think!
Muttering under my breath in a singsongy voice I chant,
"don'tbeapolicecar, don'tbeapolicecar, don'tbeapolicecar, don'tbeapolicecar, don'tbeapolicecar....."
A little voice in the back says, "I'm scared..."
It was my son, Ian.
I said, "What are you scared of, sweetie?"
"The police," he said.
Oh, great, most three year olds admire police officers and those that uphold the law. Mine fears them.
Superb mothering.

Many of you are under the impression that I did get pulled over. And after all of that, it was just a car with a ski rack. I'm near sighted...what can I say?

Oh man..I remember ponch and jon. I had a crush on Jon.
So, uh, how much did you have to pay for speeding or did you charm your way out of it? And exactly how many times have you been pulled over with kids in the car that they fear the PD? ;)
My son was with me when I was pulled over one time. He didn't understand why, because we all had our seatbelts on. We would tell him that if you didn't wear your seatbelt that you would go to jail. When when he found out that i was getting a ticket he really thought that I was going to the clink.
We are saving for his therapy.
We have an arch nemisis officer in our neighborhood, Officer Daniels. He has given me two tickets, my mother one and my mother in law one as well. Now my oldest is conviced that Officer Daniels could be lurking around any corner. It's hard to teach them to love police officers when we spend the whole time trying to avoid them! You are not alone.
Hilarious!
I do the same kind of stuff (and I have a lead foot and like to coast through stop signs). Guess I'll have to tone it down a little when Funshine's in the car, huh? It's funny what they pick up from us.
THIS CRACKED ME UP! For several reasons....1) As a kid, I used to play CHiPS with my neighborhood boys on our Big Wheels...I was the token "desk" girl cop (remember her? she never got to leave the precinct....but when we played, I chased down the bad guys on my super cool Big Wheel)....2) when we first moved here, I got a ticket for going 81 in a 70 mile per hour zone (oops). Now I'm OBSESSED with my cruise control and am always anxiously looking in the rearview mirror for da fuzz.
No worries about your son, he'll grow up to respect the police, he'll just be a neurotic driver like the rest of us....haahaha
Jen, You are to funny. I'm glad I found you. I think we think a like. Great Blog.
